Suzanne Moyle Scott

September 6, 1929 ~ May 18, 2022

Salt Lake City, Utah— Suzanne Moyle Scott passed away peacefully on May 18, 2022, at the age of 92 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Suzanne lived a full and fabulous life, and recently commented: “I did my best every day, I lived with enthusiasm and maintained a zest for life!” She expressed that she was always a very happy and content person throughout her life.

Suzanne’s life started on September 6, 1929, in Salt Lake City, Utah, born to Louise Theodosia Covey and James Douglas Moyle. Suzanne attended Lowell School, Bryant Jr. High, and East High School. Suzanne had a lifelong love of Brighton and spent her summers there as a youth, horseback riding (sometimes over the pass to Park City to the barber), swimming in the lakes, hiking the mountains, and playing card games at the family cabin. She continued her connection to the area throughout her life. The two weeks each summer at the family cabin for her kids was always a highlight (catching polliwogs and having no television or telephone!). There will always be a part of her that belongs to the Brighton air and mountains. Suzanne lived in Brooklyn, New York as a child, and then Salt Lake City, where the family lived in the historic Dinwoody home at 411 East 100 South. Her connection to her childhood home, once her family moved, continued throughout her life. She drove her children past the home frequently, and they heard such wonderful stories of her growing up there.

Suzanne attended college at the University of Utah, the Barmore Girls Finishing School in New York City, and Alliance Francaise in Paris, France. Suzanne was a lifelong member of the Chi Omega sorority and met her partner of over 60 years at a fraternity picnic at the University of Utah in 1952. There she met D. Brent Scott, in between trips to Europe, where she served as a tour guide for a group of peers, and they became engaged. She was soon off again to travel and eventually did come back to marry Brent on January 30, 1953.

Suzanne raised four children in Cottonwood, in a home she and Brent built on part of the Moyle family farm: Lakewood. She had a lifelong love of animals, which she passed on to her children. They were allowed to bring many animals into the home through the years. Whether it was horses, lambs, chicken, dogs, or cats, Suzanne took them all in. She once said: “I love my children as people, and I enjoy a close relationship with all of them”.

She was affiliated with Chi Omega Alumni, Junior League of SLC, Association for Mentally Disabled, Owl and Fork, Holiday Investors, Cottonwood Molls, Gorgeous Girls Gourmet Group, Juvenile Court, Dinner Club, Hand and Foot card group, Salt Lake Country Club, The Town Club and The Springs Club in Rancho Mirage, CA. She did volunteer and service work for all these organizations and was always very socially involved in her community. Suzanne loved to travel the world and did so with vigor, with her parents as a youth, and as an adult with her children and husband. She always said that traveling outside the area was the best way to add to our education, and she was up for numerous adventures with all her children around the globe. She spent winters in Rancho Mirage, CA, where she had an active card game and social life. She spent summers in Sun Valley, Idaho, where she played tennis and enjoyed time with her children. She did enjoy her membership in the LDS church and was a lifelong member.

Suzanne said, “I want all of my friends and family to know that I enjoyed every minute with them, and I can’t think of anything else I want to do in my life”. Suzanne, who spoke fluent French throughout her life, says: “Au Complete”.

Suzanne says, “The lights of her life”, are her four children, David Scott (Debra), Katharine Scott, Jeffrey Scott (Sarah) and Melissa Scott Elkins (Brian), who all survive her now. Her eight grandchildren, Abigail Scott (Pierre Chastain), Lily Scott (Ryan Kovach), Isabelle Scott (Jacob Carruth), Scott Henney (Revan Sunol), Theodosia Henney, Shepard Scott, Samuel Scott, and Angus Scott. She had one great grandchild (who she saw almost daily via zoom for the past year and a half): Alpha Louise Chastain.

Suzanne was the oldest sibling in her family. She is preceded in death by her two sisters, Elizabeth Moyle Greer and Patricia Moyle Light, and her brother James H. Moyle II.

Special thank you to Suzanne’s caregivers of many years: Rachelle and Clint Harris, and Marcela Burgos. They were much more than caregivers to her, they were loving friends. Thank you to her physician for her medical care and insight, Dr. Alison Schlisman. We appreciate you all for your loving care of our mother.

A private graveside service will be held at the Salt Lake Cemetery. In lieu of flowers to honor Suzanne, she would like donations to go to Neighborhood House (https://givebutter. com/sscott) or The Town Club Preservation Foundation (www. townclubslc.org).
