IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA

(JUNE 7 ON FXX, NEXT DAY ON HULU)

These days Rob McElhenney, 46, may be more famous for buying the British soccer team Wrexham (with co-owner Ryan Reynolds) than for his acting career, but his claim to fame really started in 2005 with the premiere of the hilariously misanthropic comedy series returning for its 16th season. McElhenney created Sunny and stars in it along

with Glenn Howerton and Charlie Day. Below are some fun facts about the actor/producer/sports team owner, who is the only cast member of the comedy actually from Philadelphia. Unsure how It’s Always Sunny In

Philadelphia would do, McElhenney kept his waiter job during the first season.

He hates that Philadelphia is more

 famous for its cheesesteaks than for being the “birthplace of our nation.”

Although his character in Sunny is

 homophobic, in real life McElhenney’s mother is a lesbian, his two brothers are gay and he says he’s “always been part of the gay community.”
