Howard Scott Jacobson

1942-2022

Sandy, UT—Howard Scott Jacobson, our amazing husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his children on September 27, 2022, at the age of 79, after a short battle with colon cancer.

Howard was born on November 26, 1942, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Alma Gustave Jacobson, Jr. and Vira Smith. He grew up in Salt Lake and Murray, Utah and graduated from Granite High School in 1961. He met the love of his life, Doris Bray, in 1962 at the Salt Lake County Fair, and on September 9, 1964, Howard and Doris were married in the Salt Lake Temple. They enjoyed an amazing 56-year journey together which was temporarily interrupted by Doris’ passing last year. Their journey now continues.

Howard and Doris moved their small family to Sandy, Utah in 1972 where they raised their three children, Stacie, Scott, and Andrew. They built relationships with many wonderful friends and neighbors.

Howard was a proud Utah Man until the day he died, Ki-yi! He graduated from the University of Utah in 1972 and loved watching his Utes play. His final Ute game was the 2022 Rose Bowl. He loved watching his children and grandchildren perform and compete. If Howard wasn’t at home, you could find him at a theatre, school, ball field, or gym, rooting for his children and grandchildren. Howard also loved to travel and see the world. Over the past several years, he and Doris were part of an incredible group of friends who cruised to some of the most exotic parts of the world.

Howard was an Eagle Scout and lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and spent his life following in the footsteps of his Savior and devoted to serving others. Many lives were blessed as he spent years serving in various church callings including Bishop, Family History Missionary, and Relief Society President’s Husband. He had a strong testimony of the Gospel and was a rock of support for his children and grandchildren.

Howard grew up working in the family-owned Jacobson Bakery. He was a drummer and had a passion for Jazz music. He loved his country and spent 30 years proudly serving in the United States Army Reserve. He worked for the United States Postal Service for 36 years. Not ready for retirement, he spent an additional 10 years working alongside Doris at home as a JetBlue reservation agent.

Howard is survived by his children, Stacie Jacobson Rowberry (Mel), Howard Scott Jacobson, Jr. (Tiffany), and Andrew Bray Jacobson (Becky); his siblings, Paul G. Jacobson, Arlene J. Rowberry, Norma J. Maynes, Lorane J. Wilson, and Dean B. Jacobson; 10 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandsons. He is preceded in death by his parents, Alma Gustave Jacobson, Jr. and Vira Smith; and his wife and sweetheart, Doris Adeine Jacobson.

Keeping with his lifelong spirit of service, one of Howard’s final wishes was to donate his body to the U for medical research and education. As a result, there will be no traditional viewing, funeral, or burial service. All friends and family are invited to join in a gathering to remember and celebrate Howard’s life which will be held at his home on Saturday, October 8, 2022. Join us anytime between 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm. A small graveside service will be held at a future date when Howard’s body has completed its ongoing service to others.

In lieu of flowers, and in the spirit of Howard’s lifelong and ongoing service, the family invites you to find an individual or family in need of service, and do something to lighten their burden.
